Acting DPP Ratu David Toganivalu passes away aged 49

Fiji’s Acting Director of Public Prosecution and Acting Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) Ratu David-George Leonard Toganivalu has died.

Born December 27, 1973, Ratu David-George passed away peacefully at age 49 on the afternoon of Monday, October 2, 2023, at his residence in Taro, Bau, Tailevu, surrounded by his family.

A statement from the family stated that throughout his life, Ratu Toganivalu touched the hearts of many with his warm smile, unwavering kindness, and commitment to making the world a better place.

A lawyer by profession, Ratu David-George had served as Fiji’s Deputy Director of Public Prosecution in the early 2000s, started his private law firm in 2012, and later served as Director of Public Prosecution in the Republic of Nauru from 2014 to 2017.

He returned to Fiji to continue his law practice and was recently appointed as the Acting DPP and Acting Commissioner of FICAC.

“Aside from his professional pursuits, Ratu David-George was also known for his active involvement in his community. He truly exemplified the spirit of giving back and making a positive impact on the lives of others,” the family said.

Ratu David-George is survived by his wife Losalini Leweniqila Toganivalu and five children – Maraia[1]Esther, David-Edward, Viliame, Josua and Liliwaimanu; his mother Adi Asilina Davila Toganivalu and three sisters – Angela, Tuipolotu and Diana.

The funeral service to honour and remember Ratu David-George’s life will be held on Saturday, October 7, at 10am at the Taro Methodist Church.
