The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that Acting Commissioner of Corrections, Mr. Sevuloni Naucukidi, has formally withdrawn from the official Fijian delegation to New Zealand led by Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga.
Mr. Naucukidi informed the Minister in writing, stating that personal and professional responsibilities within the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) must take priority “given the current situation.”
Minister Turaga has acknowledged and respected Mr. Naucukidi’s decision, commending his continued leadership in maintaining stability within the Corrections Service.
The announcement follows Mr. Naucukidi’s first court appearance earlier today at the Suva Magistrate’s Court, where he is facing a charge of criminal intimidation.
It is alleged that in July 2025, he threatened a member of his support staff. The charge was filed after consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
He has been released on a $1,000 non-cash bail bond.
