Defending triple N Zone girls division champion Adi Cakobau School (ACS) will be out to defend its title during the two-day competition at the HFC Bank Stadium starting yesterday.

ACS bagged 41 gold, 25 silver and 17 bronze to take out the girls title in 2022. About 2000 students from 19 schools will be taking part in the two-day competition which started yesterday.

The zonal meet involves secondary schools in the Naitasiri, Nausori and Naisnu areas.

ACS media officer Ravuama Latilevu said spirits were high in the camp as the team was excited to take part in their individual.

“For the ACS athletics team, we are taking it one at a time,” he said.

“First, we are trying to defend our Triple N title this year and then we look forward to the Coca-Cola Games.

“But yes, we are well prepared and have set out strategies in order to retain our titles again this year.”

Latilevu said ACS main goal during the zone was to get as much athletes as possible to qualify for their next objective, the 2023 games.

“We’ll try and retain the same number of gold medal that we had last year in the Triple N Zone and then from there prepare for the games.”

“We have our team of dedicated coaches and athletes who have well prepared after our interhouse.

“And we were well prepared to defend the Triple N title.”

Former Pacific sprint queen Makelesi Bulikiobo Batimala is the new ACS head coach, who will be leading the girls from Sawani to try and retain their title this year.

“It was through the support of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and ACS old girls that we were able to secure her as our head coach this year,” Latilevu said.

“So whatever she has planned for the team to defend our title, we are all behind her and supporting her.”

Nakasi High School is the defending boys champion while ACS is defending the girl’s title. The Triple N Zone will end today.
