Divisional Crime Officer East Ifereimi Savou and two others have made their first appearance in the Suva Magistrate’s Court for retrial in compliance with a High Court order.

Mr Savou, colleague Samuela Dakuitoga and businessman Bharat Jogia appeared before Magistrate Sofina Ali yesterday.

FICAC had charged the trio in 2016 with offences relating to bribery and abuse of office for which they were convicted and had their 18-month sentences suspended for two years.

FICAC successfully appealed the matter in the High Court in Suva.

Last week Justice Thushara Rajasinghe ordered that the judgment delivered on July 12 be quashed and their sentence set aside for a retrial.

Yesterday, Ms Ali adjourned the matter since the acting chief magistrate was not present to issue further directions.

The men are on bail and the matter has been adjourned to August 13.
