THE taxidriver who allegedly caused the death of a 22-year-old man on Boxing Day last year was granted bail by the Nasinu Magistrates Court yesterday.
Sailosi Baleisuva Mara, 37, appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele.
He was ordered to pay a cash bond of $800 to the court registry before he was released.
Mr Mara, represented by Lice Manulevu of the Legal Aid Commission, is charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death and one count of failing to comply with the requirement after an accident.
Magistrate Ratakele also ordered that the two sureties sign a bail bond of $1000.
He informed Mr Mara that he was not to change his home address and to reside at 8 Miles, to appear in court on all the dates when his case was called and not to reoffend.
Meanwhile, police prosecutor Sergeant Jiten Singh requested if Mr Mara’s travel documents be surrendered to the court and for a stop departure order to be issued. Mr Mara then replied that his passport was with the court registry.
Meanwhile, Ms Manulevu informed the court that they had so far been served with the first phase of disclosures only.
The matter has been adjourned to January 27 for the second phase of disclosures.
