The Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF) has already utilized 34.4% of its allocated $7 million budget for the 2025–2026 financial year in just two months, Parliament was told on Tuesday.
Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, revealed that between August and September 2025, ACCF had spent $2,4 million , leaving a balance of $4.5 million.
However, Mr Singh also exposed major failings from past management, pointing to more than 13,000 compensation claims that were received but not actioned due to a lack of follow-up by the previous administration.
“We inherited 13,176 forms that were received by ACCF, but the injured workers were not notified to apply for compensation,” he said.
“Unfortunately, about 40 to 50 percent of them are now missing out because of the three-year time bar.”
He described this as a failure of the previous ACCF leadership, which resulted in thousands of injured Fijians not receiving timely compensation.
