TWELVE days ahead of assuming office, incoming Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu claims that efforts are afoot to discredit him.
Mr Tudravu confirmed to The Fiji Times allegations of abuse of office and misconduct have been made against him.
“I was advised of the allegations made against me and fully cooperated with the investigation process to clear my name,” Mr Tudravu said, adding that the announcement of his appointment had ruffled feathers.
“I have been out of the Fiji Police Force for more than two years, why now?” he said.
He said it was unfortunate a report had come from a former colleague.
“It is a culture that has been the norm for a long time.
“I believe that whether it was me or someone else appointed, it would have been the same where allegations would have been made of some sort.”
He urged his officers to give him time to prove himself and to show how serious he is about restoring public confidence in the policing profession.
“My appointment was made in a transparent manner, and this is just one obstacle that I will face in this journey to reset and restore public trust through service delivery.”
The file for the investigation was closed by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday.
