THE general secretary of the National Union of Hospitality, Catering and Tourism Industries Employees, Daniel Urai, said it was about time that the Employment Relations Act 2007 and Work Care Bill 2024 were enacted.
He told this newspaper yesterday that public consultations had been taking place for the past 10 years.
“It’s about time,” Mr Urai said.
“We have been holding this consultation for what, more than 10 years now.
“Finally reaching the step where we are hoping that whatever was discussed the past years will become fruitful and be enacted into law,” he added.
Mr Urai said that they looked forward to the Government passing the amendments as presented.
He said it had taken a very long time to come to this point.
“But personally, I’m grateful that we’ve got here, and the Government has been positive in allowing this to happen.
“The consultation is great and all parties have given their views.
“Let’s hope Cabinet will come up with something that is acceptable to everyone.”
The final submission for the proposed Employment Relations Act 2007 and Work Care Bill is on January 20.
The public consultation began in the Western Division on Monday and is presently being held in Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki.
