The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) annual KPMG Open Day 2025 hosted over 10,000 students to its three Fiji campuses in Laucala, Lautoka and Labasa.
USP vice-chancellor and president Professor Pal Ahluwalia described the event as one of the most important in the university’s calendar.
“This is a special and inspiring time that we truly look forward to,” he said.
“It is when we open our doors to showcase the unique cultural richness, diverse academic offerings, and the strong sense of community that define USP, a truly Pacific institution rooted in the vibrant, resilient cultures of our Oceanic region.”
The event offered a vibrant showcase of academic programs, cultural displays, and campus life.
Students travelled from as far as Tavua from Balata College to take advantage of the opportunity to engage with academics and find out about courses and programs offered.
“We wanted to give the students a chance to ask questions and collect as much information as they can, so that they become aware of the wide range of opportunities available,” said Balata College teacher Divesh Ram.
“Most of them come from rural communities, so this is a great way for us to learn and experience what the university is like.
“The journey was not easy, we had a few hiccups on the way with our bus, but it’s been a fruitful trip.”
Prof Ahluwalia commended the staff members and students for their hard work in preparing programs and expressed confidence that the event would inspire many to join USP.
