A welcome boost

THE Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has given new firefighting and rescue equipment to the National Fire Authority.

Authority CEO John O’Connor said the highly-specialised equipment and portable generators would further boost NFA’s resilience to respond to fire and rescue operations during flooding and motor vehicle accidents.

“This donated equipment will complement and effectively expand and enhance NFA’s operational capability as well as increase NFA’s resilience to rescue operations and enable the achievement of its full potential in delivering an efficient and effective emergency response and rescue service for fire, ambulance and other emergencies,” he said.

JICA resident representative Shumon Yoshiara said the authority and JICA, together with Matsusaka Area Firefighting Association, had a long and cordial relationship over 11 years.

“The provision of equipment for flood rescue, road accidents and emergency will enhance the capacity of firefighters to carry out their work effectively while attending to fire disasters,” Mr Yoshiara said in an authority statement.

Mr Yoshiara added the cordial relationship which JICA and NFA had shared in the past would continue.
