GOVERNING in coalition is never easy, says Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka as he acknowledged the challenges it posed since taking office on December 24, 2022.

He noted the backlash from supporters, especially on the ‘unkept’ promises made by the different parties in the coalition.

Mr Rabuka admitted it was a very difficult two years especially when it had to do with executing a “balancing act” on the diverse priorities of the coalition partners.

“We had a very difficult two years in the sense that we are governing by a coalition group,” he said.

“We have not been able to satisfy all our manifesto, and we were receiving a lot of criticism from our own party supporters who were saying we were not able to do this, we were not able to do that.

“It has come to a point where we have to tell them and make them aware and understand that the rule by a coalition is never easy. You don’t have a one-party manifesto to satisfy,” he said.

Unlike the National Federation Party, which did not present a manifesto for the 2022 General Election, the Social Democratic Liberal Party and the People’s Alliance Party each unveiled a substantive manifesto prior to the 2022 elections.
