Smiles and laughter were the epitome of the pre-Fiji Day celebrations held around the country.
With Fiji celebrating its 52nd anniversary today, most schools and communities had also commemorated the day that Fiji gained independence in their different progams last week.
From that notable day on October 10, 1970 to 2022, Fiji has seen its fair shares of accomplishments and challenges – events that have shaped the nation.
Fiji Day is celebrated in many forms with the actual day (October 10) used for some quality downtime with family and friends.
With the theme “A Transformed, Inclusive and United Fiji for All”, the main program according to a Fijian Government statement, will begin with a march by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, the Fiji Police Force, and the Fiji Corrections Services.
The Government statement said school visitations had already begun last week in the lead-up to the main celebration today. Activities such as a “ROC” market and Government department displays will also be part of the celebrations. Fijian families are encouraged to attend the celebration today.
Last week, attending a Pre-Fiji Day celebration event at the Ba Special School was the Minister for Youth and Sports, Parveen Bala who also wished the students, teachers and Fijians around the country a Happy Fiji Day.
Mr Bala said government had steered Fiji on a path that they believed was best for this beloved nation and they continue the work of building a transformed, inclusive and united Fiji.
He thanked the management and staff of the special school for their partnership with the government in giving hope to young people to become valuable citizens of Fiji in years to come.
