The 2025 Suva Classics Bodybuilding Competition is set to be an extraordinary event as it serves as a qualifier for the South Pacific Bodybuilding Championship in Tahiti later in the year.

This competition holds immense significance, as athletes will be vying for the opportunity to represent Fiji on the international stage.

Elizabeth Maki, the acting president of Fiji Bodybuilding, underscored the importance of every aspect of the competition.

She emphasised that every pose, and every ounce of effort displayed on stage could be the deciding factor between competing at home or proudly showcasing Fiji’s colours abroad.

“There will be three men’s categories, two women’s categories, and a junior category; the competition promises to be historic,” said Maki.

“Spectators will have the chance to witness Fiji’s top athletes at their peak, competing fiercely for glory and recognition.”

Maki recognised the untapped potential in Fiji for both men and women in bodybuilding and aims to break barriers, particularly for female athletes to increase participation and promote the development of the sport.

“There is a lot of potential here in Fiji for women and men, and we need to break the barrier for women especially, to have more women on stage. At this point we have more men so it is our aim to develop the sport.

“My message to any interested or any potential younger athletes that is interested in taking up the sport: Bodybuilding is an excellent sport to participate in, it’s an individual sport were by you help yourself individually and have your own individual goals.

“We do have a lot of senior athletes that are willing to help the junior athletes prep for the shows, help them with their nutrition and training.”

The competition will start at 6pm at the Metro Gym Convention Conference Room in Suva today.

There is no entry fee for the event, meaning that spectators can freely support the athletes as they vie for the chance to represent the nation on the international stage.

Support is vital for a sport that is slowly capturing the interest of youths.
