A SHOT at redemption is finally on the horizon for the Vodafone Fiji Bati team as we edge closer to their much-anticipated Pacific Bowl final against the Papua New Guinea Kumuls on Saturday, 5pm at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
The Bati fell short last year losing to the Kumuls 10-22 in Suva.
Heading into this week’s decider, both teams are currently undefeated having registered strong wins against the Cook Island Aitu.
This clash will be Fiji’s opportunity to write the wrongs of last year’s disappointing loss and an opportunity to progress to the next stage which is the Pacific Championship.
“We are banking on coach Kativerata and the boys to deliver the result that we want,” Fiji National Rugby League chairman Akuila Masi said.
A win for the Fiji Bati makes them the Pacific Bowl champions and according to the 2024 competition format, they will have a promotion and relegation playoff with the lowest-ranked team in the Pacific Championship.
“People are excited the team is excited they want to win, and PNG also wants to win so it’s going to be a great game.”
Despite the home ground advantage for the Kumuls, Masi is confident the team can upset the league-crazy nation at their home turf.
