Eva Tovoleisuva first met Mesulame Vuetaki in Voua Village in Cuvu, Nadrgoa, and an instant connection was felt.
It was his warm smile and friendly demeanour that immediately caught Eva’s attention and she could feel that there was something quite special about him.
While Eva is from Naroi, Moala, Lau, with maternal links to Waitabu, Lakeba, Lau — Mesulame is from Mavua Village, Ruwailevu in Nadroga.
When they began dating, Eva realised he was the one for her, during a tough time, Mesulame showed unwavering support.
The couple were together for about six and half years before tying the knot on April 19, 2024.
“Mesulame and I share a love for adventure and exploring new places,” Eva shared.
“We also have similar values and beliefs, which help us navigate through life’s challenges together.”
In May 2019, before the birth of their son, Mesulame proposed to Eva at her favourite spot that overlooked the ocean
During that intimate moment, their hearts felt at ease and they both were ready and happy to embark on a lifelong journey together.
“The wedding planning process was filled with excitement and anticipation.
“We wanted to incorporate elements of our culture and tradition into the celebration, ensuring it was a memorable occasion for everyone involved.
“We chose the date based on my graduation and the opportunity for me to return to Australia to continue my studies. It was a practical decision that allowed us to celebrate two significant milestones in our lives.”
Their beautiful wedding took place in Mesulame’s village in Mavua.
“Alongside the wedding, we also observed the traditional ‘Qoli’ ceremony, exclusively done for the eldest daughter or only girl in the family.
“This involved going to the sea to fish and providing the catch to Mesulame’s family or the entire village.”
Their matrimonial ceremony was celebrated with more than 400 families and friends, and to set the mood, a live band from Bua Boiyawa kei Uluiqere ensured lively and memorable music played throughout the celebration.
“For the wedding, Cake Lab crafted our exquisite wedding cake, while the decor was elegantly arranged by Jack Lalabalavu. My wedding outfits were made by my mum, adding a personal touch to the occasion.
“In the moments leading up to the wedding, we were filled with a mix of excitement and nervousness. We couldn’t wait to start this new chapter of our lives together.”
Eva’s advice for couples planning to get married is to openly communicate, cherish each other’s differences and always prioritise love and respect in their relationship.
