OUT of the many nurses that participated at the 44th Annual Fiji Nurses Sports tournament, one of them included first-time participant Miriama Bukalidi.

Bukalidi, who is stationed at the Valelevu Health Centre, was part of the Nasinu Medics team.

She said it was an exciting experience for her, especially since she had returned to playing netball after a prolonged period of time.

“Basically, this is my first time taking part in the tournament,” Bukalidi shared.

“I know it’s been a long time since I played netball, but it’s been a fun experience playing with my colleagues, not only playing with them but also reuniting with other nurses from around Fiji.”

She said she and her colleagues had to balance their busy schedule as medical front-liners with training for the annual meet.

“Most of us, since we are shift workers, we had to balance between work and training.

“So I think all of us managed to have that balance in order for us to take part in this tournament.”

“Most of the time, we ask our other colleagues to cover our other shifts so that we can avail ourselves during our training.”

During the tournament, she reunited with her friends from nursing school and highlighted what it felt like doing so.

“I had to reunite with some of my friends that I went to nursing school with, so it was a fun experience meeting with them and also playing with them,” she stated.

After a dynamic debut at this year’s meet, she plans to return with her colleagues for next year’s competition.
