Rapists handed down custodial sentences

FOUR men convicted of several counts of rape were handed down custodial sentences this morning by the High Court in Suva.

Justice Salesi Temo sentenced Wame Baleimakogai who was convicted of two counts of rape and Napolioni Leiloma, convicted of four counts of rape to nine years imprisonment with a non-parole period of eight years.

While Luke Sorovakatini who was convicted of one count of rape and Sanjay Lal, convicted of a count each of rape and assault with intent to rape were sentenced to eight years imprisonment with a non-parole period of seven years.

Lal, Baleimakogai, Leiloma and serving prisoner Sorovakatini had raped two women on October 9, 2016 in Tailevu.
