The late Kanti Punja will be remembered as a prolific business figure who played an important role in helping the poor.

Lautoka Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Richard Shafiq said Fiji’s business community has lost an important figure who dedicated his life not only to Fiji’s economic development but helping the underprivileged through his various charity groups.

“He was a great example of a what a leader in the business world should be,” said Mr Shafiq.

“Mr Punja grew his business on the values of helping people of his community. His passing is a really great loss not only to Fiji’s business community but to the many communities he helped.

“The Chamber and its members extend our heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.”

Mr Punja died in Auckland, New Zealand, after a short illness igniting a wave of tributes from local and international groups.

Leading the tributes from government, Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka said Mr Punja was a towering figure in Fiji’s business community.

“Mr Punja’s journey was marked by resilience, discipline, and an unwavering belief in the promise of Fiji,” said Mr Gavoka.

“Through his leadership, he contributed meaningfully to economic growth and helped strengthen confidence in our private sector.

“The Punja family is well known to our people in Cuvu, Nadroga, where their early roots were laid before their enterprise extended across the nation.

“They have long been held in high esteem and are remembered with great respect and fondness.”

Mr Gavoka said the late businessman stood as an example of what could be achieved through hard work and conviction earning respect across industries.

“His legacy will endure in the many lives he touched and the path he has paved for future generations.”
