A flood warning is now in force for low-lying and flood-prone areas adjacent to and downstream of Tuva, Votualevu River, Nawaka River and the Nadi River at the Town Bridge.

The Fiji Meteorological Service said water levels in the Nadi River are rising steadily as Severe Tropical Cyclone Vaianu continues to influence weather conditions.

Category 3 system is moving southeast at around 18km/h.

The cyclone is expected to lie about 210 kilometres south-southwest of Kadavu or 300 kilometres south of Nadi by 9am tomorrow.

Authorities warn that continued rainfall and runoff are contributing to increasing river levels, raising the risk of flooding in affected areas.

Residents living in low-lying communities near the Tuva, Votualevu and Nawaka rivers, as well as along the Nadi River, are being urged to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

High tide in Lautoka is expected at 9.51pm with a level of 1.36 metres, while Suva’s high tide is forecast at 10.36pm at 1.31 metres, which may further influence water levels in coastal and river areas.

Officials continue to monitor the situation closely as conditions evolve.
