Winds across parts of Fiji are expected to strengthen significantly from tomorrow, with gusts reaching up to 90 kilometres per hour as Tropical Cyclone Vaianu continues to influence weather conditions.

According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service this afternoon, winds over the Northern Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, western Viti Levu and Kadavu will shift from northeasterly to northerly and intensify.

Wind speeds are forecast to increase to around 60km/h, with gusts of up to 90km/h from tomorrow.

Forecasters say other parts of the country will also experience strengthening winds, with speeds of up to 45km/h and gusts reaching 70km/h.

The strengthening winds are expected to be accompanied by rough to very rough seas and periods of rain, heavy at times, including thunderstorms.

Authorities have also warned that heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Members of the public are being urged to take precautions as conditions are expected to deteriorate heading into tomorrow.
