All schools across Fiji will remain closed tomorrow as Tropical Cyclone Vaianu intensifies to a Category 2 system, the Ministry of Education has announced.
In a public advisory issued today, the Ministry said the decision was made in consultation with the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), prioritising the safety of students and staff.
“Tertiary institutions are urged to make the necessary call as deemed fit,” the advisory stated.
The Ministry has directed that all students, including boarders, remain at home while authorities continue to monitor the situation.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro urged parents and guardians to closely supervise children during the adverse weather conditions.
He warned against attempting to cross flooded creeks, rivers and drains, and stressed that children should not swim in rivers, creeks or the sea during this period.
Mr Radrodro encouraged families to keep children engaged in safe indoor activities, including reading and school revision, as the country experiences the effects of the cyclone.
