A woman in her 40s is believed to be the country’s latest road fatality following a three-vehicle accident along Kings Road near Viwa, Korovou in Tailevu.
Police say the accident allegedly occurred when a driver, a student in his 20s, attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with a vehicle carrying the victim. The impact triggered a chain collision involving a third vehicle.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Six other people, including the drivers, were rushed to Korovou Hospital where they received treatment.
Investigations are continuing, with the driver expected to be questioned.
