NASINU soared for greatness when they lifted the winning trophy of the men’s division at the Fiji Volleyball Federation National Championships on Saturday night.
The side won two sets to one over Suva in a tough yet thrilling three-set finale, which built up to that point after three days of competition at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
Nasinu men’s volleyball Simione Sivo said facing a formidable team like Suva was no easy feat in light of the robust talent within their ranks, however he and his teammates kept pushing for more ground when the contest unfolded on the court.
It proved vital when Suva had won the first set in the match, which compelled the team to head back to the drawing board and regroup effectively for the remaining two as the match then unfolded in their favour.
Sivo recalled urging his teammates to maintain composure under pressure and never lose sight of the end goal.
Concluding Easter on a high note, he dedicated the victory to all families in the Nasinu area and team management for ensuring the team was well prepared for the competition.
Meanwhile in the women’s competition, Suva Women were crowned champions after defeating Lautoka 2-0 in straight sets.
Jimmy of the Suva men’s team was named the men’s division’s most valuable player (MVP) while Eka Tabakaucoro, also of Suva, scooped the title for the women’s division.
