Strong winds of up to 75km/hr are expected to develop over land areas of the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups and the Northern Division from tomorrow, as Tropical Depression TD11F continues to influence weather conditions across the country.
The Fiji Meteorological Service says winds are forecast to strengthen to around 55km/hr, with gusts reaching up to 75km/hr on Tuesday.
These conditions are expected to spread to parts of the Western Division including Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki and Sigatoka, as well as the Coral Coast, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
TD11F was located about 720 kilometres west-northwest of Yasawa at 9am today and is moving slowly. The system has a moderate to high chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 to 48 hours.
While the system is expected to track southeast and remain well southwest of Fiji, forecasters warn that associated weather systems will continue to impact the group.
A heavy rain warning remains in force for the Northern Division, interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Lomaiviti and Yasawa, while a heavy rain alert is in place for the rest of the country.
Authorities are warning of rising river levels and a high risk of flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas due to expected heavy rainfall.
