A newly released track map from the Fiji Meteorological Service shows Tropical Disturbance TD11F is expected to intensify and pass to the west of Fiji in the coming days.
The system, currently located north-west of the Fiji group, is forecast to track southwards before curving further south-southeast, remaining over open waters.
According to the track, the centre of the system is expected to pass west of Viti Levu between April 5 and April 7, with the closest approach projected around Tuesday.
The map indicates the system is likely to intensify into a tropical cyclone, reaching Category 2 strength as it moves south of Fiji.
While the projected path keeps the system offshore, the associated cloud band and wind field are expected to affect parts of the country, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas.
Fiji Met has advised the public to remain alert and continue monitoring official updates as the system develops.
