A father of four is missing following a tragic incident at the Ba River while collecting kai.
Gaberieli Walu Ratu had gone to the river near the Ba Bridge yesterday morning to gather sea mussels, leaving his home around 10am.
A fellow villager, Gabby Ramoce has posted on social media that at about 1pm yesterday, he attempted to cross to the other side of the river with a bag of kai but reportedly struggled and was unable to make it across.
Search efforts are continuing, with police officers working alongside members of the communities of Votua, Nawaqarua and nearby areas.
Mr Ratu, known to many as Gabby, was the sole breadwinner for his four children after the passing of his wife two years ago.
