THE Ba Rugby Referees Association adopted their first constitution last Saturday and then duly elected their executive committee for the next three years.

Veteran match official Kolaia Caucau was elected as president following a secret ballot assisted by executives from the Ba Rugby Union and also Taione Ratu of the Fiji Rugby Union who acted as returning officer to ensure fairness and transparency.

Ba’s current highest level referee Bill Gadolo was elected unopposed as chair, while Mereani Ulamila won the vote for secretary and Malcolm Blake returned as treasurer.

“It has taken a little while to get this far,” BRU secretary Gaby Kautoga explained, “but in the end everything went smoothly. We had 14 members in attendance, while two sent their votes by proxy in line with the provision in the Constitution.”

“As the process for elections is new for the match officials, we had several meetings in the lead up to the main day, going through the draft constitution and making amendments according to the members’ wishes.”

“Finally, we can all move forward together as the BRRA now has an established framework to guide their governance and administration.”

The new BRRA executives will meet in the coming days to decide whether to co-opt any members to help on the committee and also to establish the sub-committees for appointments and discipline.

The following officials will serve as the BRRA executive committee for the next three years:

-Kolaia Caucau (president)

-Filimoni Gadolo (chair)

-Mereani Ulamila (sSecretary)

-Malcolm Blake (treasurer)

Ba Rugby’s 2026 season begins next weekend with the opening round of the Ba Junior Championships.
