TEEING on the golf course for a good cause is the main point on the agenda for the Eagles for Ears Charity Golf Competition on April 18 at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club on Denarau Island in Nadi.
The tournament will be played in an Ambrose format in aid of the Gospel School for the Deaf in Suva.
Established in January 1999, the school comes under the Gospel Schools Council of Education which is part of the Fiji Gospel Churches.
A key aim of the school is to promote the full and productive integration of persons who are hearing impaired (deaf) into the community.
In getting the school driving forward, the school’s staff members travel throughout the country to find young people who are hearing impaired and speak with their families on what opportunities are available to them.
The school takes in students of any age and other countries such as Kiribati, according to the school’s official website.
Competition format
Playing in an Ambrose format means a team-based competition with two to four players in a team where all members tee off, have the best ball selected and everyone plays their next shot from that spot.
Registration
Registration is underway for $600 per team with four members in each and will close on April 6.
An emphasis towards higher numbers of female participation is also being pushed for, with competing teams having a minimum of one female player being given points advantage.
Prizes
For interested teams wanting to register, a tentative list of attractive prizes has been listed.
It includes a four-18-hole Denarau golf course pass, four $100 vouchers for the Cardo’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar, four lunches at Lulu’s Kokonui, four lunches at the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa, four Toko-PD passes for South Sea Cruises, four packs of coffee from South Pacific Coffee, four sulu by Hupfeld Hoerder, four meals at McDonald’s, four food boxes and four copies of the Kana Vinaka cookbook.
Terms and conditions
A maximum of only 24 teams will be accepted in line with the capacity requirements of the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club. The first 24 teams to submit full payment by the due date (April 6) will be prioritised and confirmed for the available slots. Late payments or incomplete entries may be waitlisted or declined.
