Taxpayer education is up a notch with the newly launched Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) website, now online with simple and easy to navigate features that the tax office hopes would improve compliance and lead to better revenue collection.

FRCS chief executive officer Udit Singh said a strong focus of the new website is taxpayer education.

“We know that compliance improves when taxpayers understand their obligations, when they have access to clear and simple information and when they feel supported rather than overwhelmed,” Mr Singh said at the launch of the website on Tuesday.

“The new website enhances our education efforts by presenting information in a clearer and more structured way, making information easier to find and understand, supporting self-learning for individuals and businesses and providing a reliable reference point for tax and customs matters.

“By strengthening taxpayers’ education, we empower people to comply willingly and confidently.

“Additionally, when taxpayers have access to accurate information, compliance becomes simpler and more achievable.”

Mr Singh said the last major update to the FRCS website was in 2017, alongside the transition of what used to be Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority (FRCA) to Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS).

“That rebranding reflected a fundamental shift from being primarily an authority to becoming a service-oriented organisation focused on support, partnership and trust.

“Over the past nine years, technology has moved rapidly, digital expectations have increased, information are flowing faster and citizens expect services that are intuitive, accessible and available at any time.

“In this context, upgrading our website was not only necessary but very essential.”

Mr Singh said FRCS’ vision was to be a world class revenue service and border protection agency that enabled Fiji’s prosperity, “one that operates to international standards while responding to the needs of the Fijian people.”

Officiating at the launch, Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel said the new website reflected the steady and deliberate progress FRCS was making in its digital transformation journey.

“A modern economy requires modern revenue administration.

“Digitalisation improves efficiency, reduce costs and makes it easier for businesses and individuals to meet those obligations.
