NUKULOA College of Ba stamped its authority on the opening day of the Coca-Cola Ba Zone athletics meet with a commanding clean sweep in the boys’ 1500 metres finals at Churchill Park yesterday.
In a remarkable display of endurance and discipline, the Ba-based school claimed gold across all four grades ,sub-junior, junior, intermediate and senior underlining its strength in middle-distance running.
Leading the charge was senior boys champion Manvik Singh, a Year 13 tech-science student, who described his victory as one of the proudest moments of his life.
“It was a big achievement for me. It came through hard work and believing in myself and my team,” Singh said.
“This is one of the best achievements of my life and I’m very proud of it.”
Singh, who won gold in the 800m last year, stepped up to conquer the longer distance this season, adding another milestone to his growing athletics journey.
“As I crossed the line, I just trusted myself. I dedicate this gold to my school, myself and my teachers.”
The winning momentum began with sub-junior athlete Suhaan Chand, a Year 9 student, who set the tone early.
“It was a good race. I was told to win, and I did,” Chand said.
In the junior grade, Balevuto, Ba native Josefa Masibuna continued the golden run, crediting his faith for the victory.
“I thank God for His plan that allowed me to win the gold medal,” said the Year 9 student.
With four gold medals secured in one event, Nukuloa College has sent a strong message to its rivals, emerging as a serious contender as the zone meet progresses today.
