DISRUPTIONS to shipping services operating from Ellington Wharf in Rakiraki are to be expected from April 1 to April 30.
Passengers and operators have been advised by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji to expect delays and the possible adjustments to normal schedules at Ellington and possibly other wharves and jetties.
MSAF has advised all travellers to plan their voyage in advance, particularly with the increased demand expected over the busy Easter weekend.
Shipping operators are reminded of their responsibility to ensure the safety of all passengers while travelling.
MSAF said operators were strictly cautioned against overloading vessels, and compliance checks would be actively conducted. Any breach of safety regulations will be dealt with accordingly.
MSAF also emphasised the importance of strict adherence to approved shipping schedules to minimise inconvenience and maintain orderly operations at all jetties and wharves.
The authority added that stricter penalties will be imposed against operators that did not conform to shipping schedules and against operators that compromise operational safety during ship berthing.
“The authority appreciates the cooperation of the public and maritime operators as we work to ensure safety and efficiency across Fiji’s maritime transport network,” MSAF said.
