Queen Victoria School stormed to victory in the blue-ribbon event after a Jone Raibevu announced himself in style during Day One of the Coca-Cola Tailevu Zone Athletics Meet at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday.

In a remarkable twist, this year marked his first attempt at the 100 metres — making his blue-ribbon victory even more impressive.

For Raibevu, it’s not just a win; it’s a breakthrough moment.

“It’s my first time running the 100 metres,” he said with pride.

“I’m happy for this opportunity. I’m proud of myself.”

His triumph didn’t come easy because behind the finish-line glory lies a story of setbacks and perseverance.

“I feel really happy,” Raibevu said moments after his win.

“I did not expect to take home the blue-ribbon event today (yesterday).”

Raibevu added that preparations were gruelling, filled with demanding training sessions and personal challenges that tested his resolve.

“It was hard,” he shared.

“There were a lot of tasks to do. It did not come out easily. I got sick sometimes, but I managed to get back hard and return to training.”

Despite the obstacles, Raibevu leaned on the words of those who believed in him. Teachers, parents, especially his friends back in school were his driving force.

“I always remember what my teachers and parents said,” he reflected.

“Especially the boys back at Vulinituraga. They always encouraged me to not lose hope and trust myself.”

With stronger rivals in this year’s Coca-Cola Games, Raibevu has already set his sights higher accolades.

“I’ll push myself because there are a lot of competitive students all around Fiji for the Cokes,” Raibevu shared.

Grounded in humility, Raibevu dedicated his victory to those closest to his heart.

“I dedicate this event to my boys back in Vulinituraga, and especially to my grandparents.”

Raibevu’s triumph is more than just a victory; it serves as a potent reminder that perseverance combined with faith may help you cross any finish line.
