This year’s Cricket Fiji Easter Tournament will be a competition that has grown not only in size, but in significance.
Reflecting on the steady rise of the event, tournament director Tomasi Nawaciono shared that the competition has grown this year.
“This year, we have 14 teams competing, which is a big step forward for us,” Nawaciono said.
The tournament will be split into two competitive tiers.
Tier 1 features eight of the strongest sides, while Tier 2 includes six emerging teams eager to prove themselves.
With 12 associations now part of the competition, the structure adds a sharp competitive edge.
“At the end of the tournament, the bottom two teams from Tier 1 will be relegated to Tier 2,” Nawaciono explained.
“And the top two teams from Tier 2 will be promoted. So, everything is on the line — not just the title, but where teams stand for next year.”
What makes the tournament truly special is its strong island representation.
Teams are travelling to Suva from across the Lau region, including teams from Cicia, Lakeba, Moce, Namuka, Fulaga, Komo and Kabara, alongside teams from Suva and Nadi.
The mix of island talent and urban teams creates a unique blend of playing styles and cricketing culture.
“It’s great to see so many island teams coming in,” Nawaciono said. “The passion for cricket is growing every year. We used to have 10 or 12 teams — now we’re at 14 and still expanding.”
The early rounds will run through the week, with semi-finals set for Friday and the finals on Saturday.
