Passengers travelling from Nabouwalu through Ellington Jetty on a Interlink vessel today are stranded after an allegedly blocked access to the berth.
In a statement, Interlink Shipping said its vessel departed Nabouwalu at 9am but was unable to dock upon arrival, and is currently anchored away from the jetty with passengers still on board.
The company claims that the Goundar Shipping vessel LP 9 has occupied the jetty since 4pm yesterday and is not scheduled to depart for Nabouwalu until 6pm today.
Interlink has criticised the situation, alleging that the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji has failed to intervene.
“MSAF is not doing anything about this issue,” the statement claimed.
The company further raised concerns about passenger safety, saying the responsibility for safe operations at sea lies with MSAF, including the management of jetty facilities under its jurisdiction.
A Interlink spokesman said both Police and MSAF in Rakiraki have been alerted.
