The young guns from Saint Ann Primary School have announced their arrival in the Suva Primary Schools Netball Competitions with a statement of intent that netball enthusiasts won’t forget anytime soon.

The under-10 girls demolished Marist Convent School 10-0 in the semifinals — a result that speaks volumes about their skill, determination, and teamwork.

Coach Ana Koroi credit the girls hard work and preparations leading up to the semi-finals.

“These girls have been training hard all week. Their goal was clear — reach the final and claim victory. Today, they showed why they deserve that chance,” she said.

This is uncharted territory for the team, who have previously only made it as far as the quarterfinals and semi-finals in past years. Now, they stand on the brink of making history with their first-ever finals appearance.

But Koroi knows the job isn’t done yet. “We need to tidy up our footwork,” she said. “There’s been too much stepping and obstruction on the court. We’ll sharpen those skills ahead of the final.”

The coach lauded the commitment of her squad, especially in juggling their academic studies and their netball commitments.

“Some of our key players have been late to the court before, but now they are fully focused,” Koroi said.

“Their talent is shining, and with scouts from Suva on the lookout for the team to the national championship, the pressure is on.”

Standout performers include the dynamic centres Fane and Maretha, wing attack Chowana, sharpshooters Viniana, and defenders Litia and Torito — all pulling their weight as the team gears up for the final showdown.

Koroi credited the under-11 team’s earlier win as a motivating factor. “Seeing the U11s win pushed the girls to make sure they also secured their spot in the final.”
