TRAINING on the 1000 steps paid off for Josaia Nakuila of Magodro Secondary School, who delivered a sensational finish to anchor his team to gold in the 4x400m relay sub-junior boys at the Nadi Zone Athletics Championship on Thursday.

It was a nail-biting finish, with Nakuila powering past Swami Vivekananda College in the final five metres to clinch victory for Magodro.

The strong-built sprinter, a native of Magodro, showed grit and determination that left spectators on their feet.

Reflecting on the win, Nakuila said, “I want to thank God for the win. In the last five metres, I knew I could do it, and I kept thinking about crossing the finishing line first.”

“We always train on the 1000 steps at the dam. It’s tough, but we do it every day, and it really helps.”

Nakuila is now setting his sights on the Coca-Cola Games, confident that his training and determination will help him achieve more success.
