SIGATOKA Methodist College and Nasikawa Vision College won the girls and boys divisions respectively at the Coca-Cola Games Nadroga Zone Athletics Championship, which concluded at Lawaqa Park on Thursday.

Defending champions Sigatoka Methodist College once again stamped their authority in the girls division, finishing on top with 15 gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals. Thomas Baker High School settled for second place with nine gold, seven silver and one bronze, while Cuvu College claimed third with six gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

In the boys division, Nasikawa Vision College rose to the top as the new champions, collecting 11 gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals.

Cuvu College finished closely behind in second place with eight gold, 12 silver and nine bronze, while Navosa Central College secured third with eight gold, six silver and four bronze medals.

Sigatoka Methodist College fielded a strong contingent of 126 athletes, comprising more than 50 girls and over 60 boys, highlighting the depth and preparation that contributed to their successful title defence.

Head of Physical Education Waisake Kalivetau said their dominance came from a balanced performance across key disciplines.

“Our strength was in both areas, the throws and the track events,” Kalivetau said.

He added that the team is aiming for a breakthrough performance at the Fiji Finals after falling short last year.

“Last year we did not win any medals at the Coke Games, but this year we are hopeful to win medals of any color.

“We hope to go one better from last year. We reached three finals but did not win any medals, so we are hoping this year we will do better.”
