Day one of the 50th Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens has concluded, and despite an early downpour, the competition intensified throughout the day in both the women’s and U18-21 categories.
After 66 grueling matches, which ended with the quarter-finals for the two divisions, an exciting semi-final clash awaits us this Saturday.
In the women’s division, the four teams advancing to the semi-finals are:
- Fresh’et Navy
- Police Blues
- Kasiabia Sinukakala
- Ezra Women’s
Defending champions Navy were the first to secure their semi-final spot following a commanding 27-5 victory over Darth Mouth Women’s.
Police Blues progressed to the semi-finals after a clinical 21-5 win against the Seahawks. Meanwhile, Kasiabia Sinukakala had to dig deep to keep their cup finals campaign alive, narrowly defeating the Lilian Amazons 12-7.
Ezra Women’s held on to a 19-12 victory against Loloma Heights to book the final semi-final spot this Saturday.
In the U18-21 division, the four teams advancing to the semi-finals are:
- Devo Young Babas
- Axellarate Aflame Brothers
- Namara Brothers
- Loloma Heights
Devo Young Babas outclassed Communion Nahehevia 21-0 in their quarter-final to claim the first semi-final berth, while Aflame Brothers held off a spirited Fiji Sea Salt Taveuni side 15-7 in their quarter-final match, keeping their cup finals hopes alive.
Namara Brothers fought until the very end in their quarter-final against Kasanias Village Boys, edging a 12-7 victory to advance to the semi-finals. Loloma Heights overcame an early 5-0 deficit against Wide Brothers to secure a hard-fought 12-5 win, booking the final semi-final spot this Saturday with hopes of making history at the 50th edition of the Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens.
Organisers will confirm the semi-final match-ups by tomorrow.
