THE Fiji Sports Council (FSC)has directed an investigation into allegations of a potential conflict of interest involving a rental arrangement at the National Hockey Centre involving the brother of its suspended chief executive officer, Gilbert Vakalalabure.
A whistleblower alleges that the Rokoika & Vakalalabure law firm occupies office space at the council’s National Hockey Centre without paying rent to the council. Instead, the agreed rent is deducted from Gilbert Vakalalabure’s salary.
Gilbert Vakalalabure’s brother, Tevita Vakalalabure, is the owner of the law firm.
FSC board chairman Peter Mazey told this newspaper the team that is currently investigating Gilbert Vakalalabure will also be looking into these allegations.
“All I can say at this stage is that we have directed an investigation into these allegations,” Mr Mazey said.
“It’s a huge investigation and the media have received a terms of reference of the team investigating all the claims.”
The firm investigating the allegations against Gilbert Vakalalabure is currently in the final week of its investigation.
