THE Fiji Airways Fiji men’s sevens team is determined to turn heartbreak into motivation as preparations intensify for the 50th edition of the Hong Kong Sevens from April 17–19 at the new Kai Tak Stadium.

Head coach Osea Kolinisau says the pain of their last-gasp series loss still lingers, but the squad is showing resilience as they regroup in camp.

Speaking during training at Albert Park yesterday, Kolinisau highlighted the mental strength required to recover from such a narrow defeat.

“We are still hurting from the last tournament, but the boys are bouncing back,” he said. “It is never easy, especially losing a series on the last play.”

With only senior players like Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Waisea Nacuqu having previously tasted victory in Hong Kong, Kolinisau has motivated the new players to rise to the occasion.

“We want the championship,” Kolinisau said.

“It is special to play in Hong Kong, but even more special to win it.”

The Hong Kong 7s, now a standalone championship with a new format, carries even greater significance.

For Fiji, Hong Kong remains more than just another tournament — it is a stage of legacy.
