Police are yet to arrest a man eight days after close to 500 marijuana plants were uncovered in Nawi, Cakaudrove.

The plants were found during a raid on a remote farming area, following an operation by officers from the Fiji Police Force’s Northern Division team.

Police said the identity of the alleged owner was known to them.

“A raid conducted in the Nawi farming area led to the discovery of close to 500 plants believed to be marijuana,” the police said.

The discovery has raised concerns about the scale of illicit drug cultivation in rural parts of Vanua Levu, with authorities intensifying their search for the suspect.

On the same day as the raid last Monday, police also made a series of arrests in separate drug-related incidents across the North.

Two individuals were arrested in Lajonia and Savusavu Town after they were allegedly found in possession of dried leaves, branches and seedlings believed to be marijuana.

In total, four men were arrested in separate cases of alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs on that day.
