Breakthrough Westfield Rugby Club marked a significant milestone on Thursday night in Lautoka with the unveiling of their new jerseys, signaling a fresh start as they gear up for the Lautoka Rugby Union Super 16 Premier Division competition.

The new kit was made possible through the support of sponsors Genesis Investment and ABL Designs, whose contributions continue to boost grassroots rugby development in the West.

More than just a uniform, the jersey reflects the club’s identity and values, drawing inspiration from the biblical scripture Epistle of James 4:10 — “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

The message underpins the team’s approach this season, built on humility, faith and determination.

Club manager Steven Ledua said the journey of the club began in Suva through the World Harvest Church before expanding to Lautoka in 2022.

“This Breakthrough started in Suva at the World Harvest Church and we started in Lautoka in 2022 where we joined Yasawa Rugby Union club games, but in 2023 we joined Lautoka Rugby Union,” Ledua said.

He highlighted the club’s growing impact in developing players, with several progressing to higher honours.

“We have produced players who have gone further to wear the national jersey. Players like Mesulame Dolokoto was one of our products. Currently there are eight players from our club playing for Lautoka Rugby Union and two players have gone into the Fiji Warriors squad.”

Ledua also acknowledged former captain Isaia Rugu, who has since moved on to play for Yaro Chiefs.

With strong community backing and a renewed sense of purpose, Breakthrough Westfield Rugby Club is aiming to make its mark this season and continue nurturing talent for the future of Fiji rugby.
