Labasa will host the national primary schools netball competition for the first time in 11 years, bringing the nation’s best young talent to the North.
Labasa Primary School Netball president Rita Kamutoa said it was proud moment for the region.
“It’s a golden opportunity for our young players to showcase their talent in front of their families and local supporters,” she said.
The competition is set to be held at Subrail Park with participation from around 23 to 24 districts across Fiji.
It will be held on April 27 to May 1.
Local schools, church halls, and military facilities have been arranged to billet visiting teams, ensuring all players are accommodated comfortably.
Ms Kamutoa said the competition would be sponsored by Crest.
“They’re not only helping financially but also providing kits to all districts, ensuring every team is ready to compete at their best. Travel expenses are also covered by school grants, which has made participation easier for all districts.”
She said for some grades, the Labasa district would be fielding two teams.
“Normally, we only take one team, but we want to maximise opportunities for development and exposure.”
The return of the national competition to Labasa after more than a decade is expected to boost netball’s profile in the North.
“This is more than just a tournament. Its a chance to celebrate our young athletes, encourage participation, and show that netball in the North is strong and growing.”
