The Loloma Heights rugby side is quietly building something special – not just for the Tara’s Supermarket Nausori Sevens, but for what lies ahead next week.
Speaking during the Tara’s Supermarket Nausori Sevens yesterday, head coach Ratu Peni Ratuvuki made it clear that the tournament was a vital part of the club’s buildup to the prestigious Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens next week.
“This is just preparation for us,” Ratuvuki explained.
“This is our platform as we get ready for next week.”
That preparation is already showing on the field. The team is beginning to click.
Ratuvuki added that the team’s cohesion and understanding of each other’s play have become evident in every match.
“Being consistent in playing together, you can see the bonding,” he said.
“The way they combine on the field—it’s awesome.”
For a team hailing from Savusavu, the transition to larger tournaments and bigger venues brings both excitement and growth.
“Coming from a small town to this kind of atmosphere—it boosts their morale,” Ratuvuki added.
His message to the players has been simple – enjoy the game.
“I just told them to go out and enjoy themselves while preparing for next week.”
Still, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges.
Ratuvuki said that unlike back home, securing training grounds was a challenge they faced.
“The main challenge is finding a place to train,” he admitted.
“We don’t have that back home.”
With the milestone 50th Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens approaching, the team’s is staying focused, hoping to turn preparation into triumph next week.
