Extra Bula FC head coach Stéphane Auvray’s primary focus is building a sustainable and successful team in the long term, as evident in the team’s remarkable second-half comeback to defeat South Island United 3-2 in a thrilling OFC Pro League round four clash at the National Stadium in Honiara on Thursday.

This victory propelled Bula FC into third place on the standings for the first time this season.

In the aftermath of the match, coach Auvray expressed his delight in witnessing the players getting rewarded for their hard work and dedication.

He credited a pivotal halftime speech for instilling belief and unity among the players.

“It was a fantastic finish, a lot of work, just seeing the players get rewarded for their hard work, it was really great,” said Auvray.

“Our key moments were the half time speech, we stayed connected, thank God they (team) believed in what I told them, and they went back to work in the second half, that’s what makes the difference in the match.”

As the team looks ahead to round five and the anticipated match in Fiji, coach Auvray emphasised the long-term vision and growth trajectory he envisions for his team.

While victories are important, he places greater emphasis on the players’ validation of their hard work and continuous improvement.

“We are trying to build something long term, it is always good to win, and it’s always best for the players to validate their work.

“We are also not hocked on points and results, but we are looking at something we can do better in every match.”

Reflecting on their climb to third place in the standings, Auvray acknowledged the team’s persistence and commitment to refining their strengths and capabilities.

Bula FC will face PNG Hekari FC at the FOUR R Stadium in Govind Park, Ba, on April 12.
