From the CWM Hospital wards to the frontlines of corrections, Maraiah Lolohea has traded 11 years as a registered nurse under the Ministry of Health for a bold new journey.

The single mother of two overcame injury and uncertainty to graduate among 95 officers at the Naboro Corrections facility yesterday, claiming the prestigious Commissioner’s Book Prize. A rib fracture in just the second week threatened to end her 14-week training, but sheer determination fuelled by her children kept her going.

She says the challenge taught her resilience and grit, proving that courage, hard work, and love can overcome even the toughest setbacks.
