NOTHING stopped Titilia Namu Uqeuqe of Church College of Fiji from breaking the Suva Zone One athletics record and the national record of the senior girls high jump event yesterday.

Uqeuqe, who hails from Tavualevu Village in Tavua, jumped 1.68m to equate the national record set by Shawntell Lockington of Xavier College in 2019.

In equalling the national record and setting a new record at the Suva Zone Two, the mission for her was to fulfill a personal ambition.

“At first, I really did not expect to break it but I was just trying to reach my personal best, that’s all,” Uqeuqe mentioned.

She was a former student of Tavua College and competed in the Coca-Cola Games in years prior representing the school from the Gold Town.

In coming over to Suva to attend Church College, she did not feel nervous when moving over from the West since she had already been familiar with the range of competition offered there.

“I always adapted really well since I would always come for the trials and the Oceania meets,” she recalled.

Yesterday’s win was a monumental feat for her and she dedicated to her family and relatives back in Tavua and her coach Brother Racule who is also based at the college.

Meanwhile, besides the record-breaking win, she was also competing in the 100m event as well.

The zone meet concludes today.
