Police have refuted claims of a cover-up in the investigation into the death of a fellow officer, insisting no one will be protected.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said there was no reason for the Fiji Police Force to withhold information in the investigation on the death of Constable Peniasi Racagi.

“What will I benefit from if I hide all these things?” he said.

He dismissed allegations that officers linked to the case were being shielded, stressing that any wrongdoing would be dealt with.

“Why should I protect people if they breach the line of any criminal activities?”

Mr Tudravu confirmed investigations were ongoing, with more than 100 statements already recorded.

“As I’ve stated, we have recorded almost 100 plus statements in those areas.”

He is urging members of the public to come forward if they have credible information that could assist investigators.

Mr Tudravu said any new evidence would be thoroughly examined.

“If anything comes up with credible information that duplicates our officers’ line of investigation, we’ll have the investigation done.”

He assured that updates would be provided as developments arise, while maintaining the integrity of the process.

The commissioner also called on the public to avoid speculation and allow the investigation to run its course.
