The hunt is on for a man who is believed to have planted about 500 plants suspected to be marijuana in Nawi, Cakaudrove.
The large discovery was made during a raid carried out by officers in the farming area, police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed.
A police team uncovered the plants during an operation.
“A raid conducted in the Nawi farming area led to the discovery of close to 500 plants believed to be marijuana,” she said.
“The Northern Division operations team is searching for the owner whose identity is known. He has not yet been arrested.”
Police said the value of the plants would be determined after laboratory analysis.
Meanwhile, police have also made arrests in separate drug-related incidents in the North.
Two people were arrested in separate cases in Lajonia and Savusavu Town after they were allegedly found with dried leaves, branches and seedlings believed to be marijuana.
In total, four men were arrested in separate cases of alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs on Monday, March 16, 2026.
All seized substances have been sent for analysis.
