Motorists and the public have been urged not to panic as Fiji continues to receive its scheduled fuel shipments despite a surge in demand.
TotalEnergies managing director and chief executive Bhavana Samel said there had been no disruption to supply.
“We receive our supplies from Singapore and Korea and we have every month, two, three vessels that come and deliver fuel to us,” she said.
“So, so far everything is as per schedule.”
She said minor delays could occur due to weather or port congestion but were expected.
“Those are some normal operational delays… we have received what we wanted to receive in last month.”
Several tankers are already scheduled to arrive in the coming weeks.
“As we speak, we have a tanker discharging in Vuda… then we have a second tanker… a third tanker in April and a fourth coming in the second or third week of April.
“So, so far, our supplies are going as per schedule, there is no disruption.”
However, she said panic buying had triggered an artificial shortage.
“So we understood that it’s probably a sentiment of panic buying… our daily allocated sale… is finished in six hours.”
She said pumps could temporarily run dry until the next delivery arrives.
